Subject:Council Agenda Item 13 - 144 Chorro Street
Dear City Council Members,
I am writing in support of the 144 Chorro project. In keeping with the City’s Downtown Concept Plan, the
project provides residential housing above the first floor with higher-density, smaller dwelling units, including affordable
housing, making the proposed building height of 75 feet appropriate within the context of the downtown zone.
Long-term maintenance of a plaza at the Downtown Centre Site, will benefit public access and continue to provide
opportunities for positive social interaction in the downtown area.
I have one comment regarding the facade shown in the renderings at the corner of Marsh and Chorro Streets. The
sidewalk zone appears somewhat privatized.
To support the intent of the City’s Downtown Concept Plan Planning Principles and Goals, the project should
enhance the public realm at this key downtown entrance point. This would include public improvements such as:
Wider sidewalks (between the private dining space and curb)
Public seating/street furniture
Public bike parking (beyond that provided within the building)
Public art
Thank you,
Melanie Mills
