Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission
CALL TO ORDER
A Regular Meeting of the San Luis Obispo Human Relations Commission was called to order on
Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room, located at 990 Palm
Street, San Luis Obispo, California, by Chair Welts.
ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Renoda Campbell, Bill Crewe, Abe Lincoln, Jeannette
Richardson, Emily Rosten, Vice Chair Michael Hopkins, and Chair Nancy Welts
Staff: Cara Vereschagin, Housing Coordinator

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Consideration of Minutes of the Regular Human Relations Commission Meeting of
June 5, 2019.
ACTION: MOTION BY COMMISSIONER CREWE, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER
ROSTEN, 7-0-0 to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Human Relations
Commission of June 5, 2019.
BUSINESS ITEMS
2. Assign 2019-20 Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Commissioner Liaisons
Housing Coordinator Vereschagin discussed the roles and responsibilities of the liaison to GIA
recipients. Commissioners discussed organizations that they were interested in liaising with and
all Commissioners agreed on new liaison assignments.

3. 2020-21 Grant Timelines
Housing Coordinator Vereschagin presented the draft grant timeline and discussed next steps for
the new general fund monies allocated for diversity and inclusion efforts.
STAFF & COMMISSION COMMUNICATIONS
4. Staff Updates
Housing Coordinator Vereschagin informed the Commission that staff has been working on the
Affordable Housing Nexus Study and Housing Element Update. She also discussed the ongoing
regional effort spearheaded by County staff on the Regional Affordable Housing and Infrastructure
Plan, as well as the City’s progress on the SB 2 grant application.
5. Commissioner Updates
Chair Welts informed the Commission that she attended the Mayor’s Quarterly meeting and
presented on current discussions of the HRC.
Commissioner Crewe announced that Sunday showers at the library have been well attended.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Welts adjourned the meeting at 6:05 p.m. The next Regular meeting of the Human Relations
Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2 at 5:00 p.m., in the Council Chamber, 990
Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, California
