Dear Members of the Planning Commission: It’s surprising that there is even a whiff of controversy about the proposed joint project involving the Palm-Nipomo Parking Garage and a new home for SLO Repertory Theatre. I strongly urge you to approve this project: The new garage will provide badly needed additional parking, and let’s not forget that the garage has been long planned and promised. It would be nice if autonomous cars and more bicycles would erase the need for this parking, but that is extremely unlikely to happen in the next 30 to 40 years, the lifetime of a new garage. Approving SLO Repertory’s plans for a new theater would be a sterling example of good government as it will leverage public lands and private dollars to enhance San Luis Obispo’s cultural vitality. This would follow the very successful example that made the Performing Arts Center such a boon for the region. Please green light this joint project. Thank you for your consideration. Robert Koob 1
