Subject:SLO REP deserves approval
SLO City Planning Commission
Chair Wulkan, Honorable Commissioners:
We are writing in support of the proposed project for co-location of the new City parking structure and a new theater
for SLO REP.
SLO REP is one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating non-profit theaters, and in the last decade or so, we have
seen the artistic quality steadily improve, resulting in frequently sold out shows. A new, state of the art facility for this
organization will enhance the City’s economic and cultural health and well-being.
In such a facility, SLO REP will increase its cultural offerings, expand educational programming, and host student
matinees for area schools.
The proposed project is a model of collaboration between the City and the non-profit sector, exhibits sound land use
planning and will ensure the greatest use for the parking structure during both days and evenings.
For these reasons, amongst others, we support the proposed project, and urge this Commission to approve the project
and bring more cultural and economic activity to our downtown.
Sincerely,
Steve McGrath and Sandi Sigurdson
