Dear City Council Members:
I am writing to encourage you to approve the Palm-Nipomo Parking Structure and SLO
Repertory Theatre joint project.
Besides fulfilling a long awaited parking solution, this project represents an opportunity to
invest in our cultural vitality and build on our historic past.
SLO REP has been an enduring and meaningful part of our community since its founding as SLO
Little Theatre 73 years ago. SLO REP now is one of our region’s oldest arts institutions, and one
of the nation’s oldest, continuously operating non-profit theatres. SLO REP attendance is at
least equal to the attendance of the SLO Symphony, Opera SLO and Festival Mozaic combined.
With shows and educational programming 46 weeks a year, SLO REP not only is an important
cultural asset, it also generates considerable economic impact in our downtown core. My wife
and I regularly run into others in the nearby restraunts, for dinner, drinks, and the Thetre. In the
proposed new building, nearly three times as many people will be able to enjoy live theatre on
a given evening.
SLO REP supporters have already committed a significant amount of money towards the
needed construction costs. Other donors are standing in the wings to make their pledges once
the City has given its final approval.
By approving this project, you can build on our history, invest in our future, and strengthen our
cultural vitality.
Thank you for your consideration.
