Subject: Please approve the SLO Rep theatre project
Dear Members of the SLO City Council,
I’m writing to enthusiastically encourage you to approve the joint project of the SLO REP Theatre and the new parking
structure at Palm and Nipomo. My husband Jerry Boots and I have been members of the arts community in San Luis
Obispo for more than 35 years, and during that time we have watched the SLO REP grow from a small, excellent
community theater group to an outstanding regional theatre company. We are subscribers and supporters of SLO REP,
and are very excited at the prospect of a new theatre and all the possibilities it offers to our community. Our
1
grandchildren have participated in their educational programs, and Jerry has performed in the band for more than one
musical.
Each year we are more impressed with the quality of their programming, and believe SLO REP is a strong cultural asset
to San Luis Obispo County. We know the shows are often sold out, and we recognize the need for a new home that will
be a vibrant part of the downtown. We are committed supporters of arts education, as evidenced by our participation
in the SLO Symphony Music Van program, strings in the schools and concerts at the PAC, and we are thrilled that the
new building will allow SLO REP to host student matinees.
This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us in San Luis Obispo, and we appreciate your consideration of this important
project.
Sincerely,
Cricket Handler
