Subject: SLO Rep/Parking Structure
Dear Mayor and City Council:
On November 5, support/approval of the Nipomo/Monterey parking lot and a new space for SLO Rep will come
before you. In my 15-year tenure here, The SLO Rep has grown to be a San Luis Obispo cultural icon and not only is
badly in need of newer, upgraded space, but under its current management has certainly earned the right to do do.
While I write to you today as a private citizen who personally enjoys, attends and supports SLO Rep, I also do so
through the lens as a large employer who recruits highly educated, highly skilled employees (doctors, nurses,
physical therapists, etc.) to head of household jobs. Most of these candidates are coming from larger communities
1
and we often need to convince them they will not be relocating to a cultural wasteland. Because of this, we never fail
to extol the virtues of the Performing Arts Center, SLO Symphony, Opera SLO and, of course, SLO Rep. Much like
our local school system, SLO Rep and it’s like entities are underappreciated assets and a powerful tool in
successfully recruiting highly skilled professionals to our area. For this reason, I seek your support for both of these
projects.
Cordially,
Ron Yukelson
San Luis Obispo
