Blakeslee was hired to chair Cuesta College’s new Fine Arts Department, we moved to San Luis Obispo from Berkeley I cried most of the way down the highway. As a mother of three under 7 years of age and pregnant with our fourth, I felt we were taking our children to a ‘hick’ town. It had little Art, Music, Dance, or Theater, just lots of cows and Camp San Luis!. Now, as a 55 year resident of San Luis Obispo I am proud to say I have done what I could to help these Arts flourish and grow. This growth is because thousands of people, like myself, recognize the spiritual lift that the Creative Arts give to people. Rep theater started in a tiny space, a hole in the wall on Monterey street. It then moved to the old SLO library where you compassionately only charged the Little Theater $1 in rent. Now it has grown and is known as SLO’s Rep Theater. The city of San Luis Obispo can share in the pride of it’s growth and should now be willing to recognize it’s maturity by approving a ‘home of its own.’ Respectfully, Diane Pusey Blakeslee Brocato 1
