Subject:Parking Structure-SLO Repertory Theatre
Dear City Council Members:
I’m writing to urge you to approve the new SLO Rep/Parking Structure project. There’s no
question that downtown businesses would benefit from extra parking - and residents would as
well.
As a long-time arts professional, I’m especially interested in SLO REP’s opportunity to build a
state-of-the-art theatre. The company has made great strides over the past decade in its
transformation from a well-respected community theatre to a popular professional repertory
company. The only thing standing in their path to reaching even greater heights is their current
out-dated facility.
I spent many years managing a professional theatre company under similar circumstances. I
can attest to the challenges they face on a day-to-day basis. A new and improved theatre
would allow them to expand their reach, earn more at the box office, and find additional
generous donors to support their work.
The new project's increased capacity and work space - coupled with Kevin Harris’ remarkable
vision for the programming that SLO REP intends to produce - will greatly improve the overall
cultural offerings this region needs and deserves.
With the completion of the project, SLO REP will be well-positioned to bring an even more
substantial benefit - artistically and economically - to our region.
Please approve this project.
Thank you for your consideration.
