Planning Commission, San Luis Obispo, Meeting November 12th, 2019
Dear Commission Members,
This letter is in support of the SLO/Rep Theatre Parking Lot Project. My name is John Lambie. I am a retired teacher of
Theatre, and served this community in that capacity in Paso Robles for over 38 years. During that time I have also acted
and directed in over 68 productions throughout the entire central coast.
Parking for patrons of the art and an acting company and production staff, is an ongoing problem for all theatre
companies and for special events centers throughout our county. WIth the exceptions of PCPA theatre, and the special
events center on Cal Poly, this problem is forever continuing. With the plans that are on the books for San Luis Obispo's
Downtown public expansion program, including an auditorium theatre, this problem must be addressed with
a commensurate parking structure. With a larger seating capacity in this theatre, growth in theatre audiences will
springboard larger as well.
San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre is quickly building a reputation both statewide and nationwide for their excellence.
Along with casting professional actors from California and out of state, their a patron following, and current sellout
audiences are expanding As a growing professional theatre company in SLO, it will be drawing a new group of tourists
and visitors to your city that will benefit all the service providers in town. The word on your home town theatre
company is real and admirable. That parking structure is needed now, and will continue to pay its way in the future.
Please make the smart choice,
John Lambie, SAG/Aftra member, actor, former county resident
