My mother-in-law, Claire Gates, for whom the Lifetime Achievement Award is named, began her involvement many years before that. Having a thriving live theatre in San Luis Obispo has helped make our city a destination. There have been many times over the years, when people have been turned away from a performance because we didn’t have space or enough seating. There are productions that would be wonderful to produce, but our current stage is too small. A new theatre with more seating, more flexibility with its spaces, and built in the downtown area will be more than just an asset to our community. It will be a place that brings people together— a hub of activity, as well as an inspiration to actors and musicians of all ages who want to perform. In addition, more classes, lectures, and outreach to our schools will be possible. Now that our plans have been approved by the City of San Luis Obispo Planning Commission, please give your approval for the SLO REP Theatre. Our city—county—deserves a modern, up- to-date theatre. We truly have earned our wonderful reputation and look forward to continuing to bring live theatre to the Central Coast! Thank you so much for your time. Sincerely, Deborah Lagomarsino 2040 Summit Drive Paso Robles, CA 93446 805-237-2281 1
