Subject:ARC, June 1st Meeting, Item #2
Good afternoon honorable members of the ARC,
I write as a concerned longtime resident of SLO. My concern in this instance is addressed to plans for a
75 foot tall structure at 1144 Chorro, next to the Wineman Hotel. There is no justification for an
exemption of the height proposal, nor the mass and scale of the design which is out of proportion to
adjacent structures.
You have an opportunity to rethink the haste to develop commercial/mixed use buildings that do not
accommodate our most urgent, common needs. How can one social distance in a 75 foot building, or
evacuate rapidly in case of a fire? Are our community guidelines a mere document to be dismissed,
overruled wantonly in view of a developer´s impatience and ambition? If we are to promote
environment friendly construction, with a view to its energy requirements, aesthetic compatibility with
the existing neighborhood, maintenance of the view shed particular to SLO, and incorporate the
demands of healthful and safe urban residential and commercial living, the height of this building must
be reduced.
Please respond to the Cultural Heritage Committee´s direction while using your own informed
judgment.
Respectfully yours, Genevieve Czech, 612 Stanford Drive, San Luis Obispo
