The aim of this email is to get clarification in regards to the Single-use Carryout Bag Ban with the overlapping suspension of the California bag ban policy per Gavin Newsom's executive order. At time of writing this, public consumption of the recyclable paper bags at our location have risen to three times it's normal rate. Unlike other retailers we still allow customers to bring their reusable bags into the store but require that they either bag their own groceries or that we place their items back into their baskets, despite this we still are struggling to remain in stock on bags that meet the requirements of the bag ordinance. Through a company wide allocation I have received 53 cases of single use plastic bags, we have been holding off on using these because we want to remain on the right side of the city and it's ordinances but currently have them on hand. My question is has the enforcement of the single use bag ban been suspended in during the pandemic due the executive order? Or is it still in effect? If this is the case we will use them so that we can continue to distribute food while providing the usual grocery service level. These would be used only until the order is reinstated, or we are directed by the city otherwise. If not I will arrange to have them sent down to LA where they will be utilized outside of SLO county and are not in violation of any ordinances. Either way you will have Sprouts support and compliance but I do not want to move resources away from the area without clarification.
