I was present at the protest where SLO PD refused to let peaceful demonstrators march, and then subsequently fired tear gas upon them. Tear gas is a weapon unfit even for war, and our police should not have it. Meanwhile, I urge you to cancel the SLO Cruiser’s night that takes place every Thursday now in place of Farmer’s Market. This event, masked as a community gathering, does nothing for the community, except for those who are privileged, white, and in support of Republican violence. I see nothing but MAGA stickers at this event, and those of us who live downtown do not feel safe when it is happening. We are hurting as a human race right now. We are mourning a system that is failing our fellow Americans. These protests are not violent, despite what anyone else says. The police are completely out of order, and are assaulting the First Amendment of the Constitution of this great country. You are passing the budget this month for the City of SLO. Revise it. Why does the City’s Police Department need assault weapons in the “happiest town in America?” Please revise the budget. Spend money where we truly need it - infrastructure and social programs. Please review the resources in this toolkit and implement change: https://www.obama.org/wp- content/uploads/Toolkit.pdf You are our leaders in our community. Lead us away from this paradigm and into a future that invests in its community, instead of smothering it with fear. Sincerely, Sloan Campi 1
