Their use of violence was not mentioned by SLO PD or the City of SLO. These government organizations keep asking citizens to protest peacefully, but then use violence to silence our voices. If you truly stand behind the decision to use tear gas and rubber bullets, why isn't it being mentioned in press releases by either organization? Are you afraid of the backlash? It seems like the lack of transparency in the actions of SLO PD is to avoid being held accountable. Additionally, it's easy to stage a photo op of the police kneeling with protestors, but until we start to see systematic changes being made to how the police function, it's an empty gesture. -Alexandra Schneider 1
