Hello,
I am not writing as a reaction to the crowd dispersal activities of the San Luis Obispo Police on the evening of June 1. It is
true that I am deeply upset by those actions, but I believe that the officers involved felt that they were acting in the best
interest of pubic safety.
I am writing to request that you change some San Luis Obispo Police Policies to increase the ability to reprimand police
officers found guilty of misconduct, de-militarize the police force, and make policing data publicly available.
I do not think San Luis Obispo has a bad police force. But I do believe that our city should be an example and strive for
the ideals of justice and equality. That means creating policies that reflect those values, regardless of the current
administrations views or attitudes. Systemic change is necessary. Let’s be leaders in enacting meaningful changes.
I hope to see you at the rally on Thursday from 5-6pm at the courthouse, and I hope you come with these ideas in mind.
Sincerely,
Reed Kenny
