It’s ridiculous that I received the postcard re this ONLY SIX DAYS before the hearing; a project of this size demands a MUCH longer time for review. 2. I live about 400 feet from this proposed project and I expect my city to protect me from over-developments like this, which would GREATLY change the character of the neighborhood. Just look around that block: it’s filled with historic ONE-STORY homes and ONE-STORY, professional buildings. 3. Further, the houses across the street and those immediately behind the proposal (1100 block of Peach and 1100 block of Mill) are all older, historic homes; to stick 5 TWO-story, modern edifices, with TWO-car garages, right in the middle of such a block would be an outrage. 4. The fact that the developer is asking “to allow interior side and rear setbacks to be reduced and to allow required parking to be provided in tandem" shows that the proposal is not of an appropriate size. If it were appropriate, it would fit within established city guidelines. Now, I realize that the city is attempting to meet State standards for providing housing. However, I believe that this developer is trying to take advantage of that mandate by shoehorning 5 new, out-of-proportion and non-conforming (two-story) structures into an area with which it is COMPLETELY incompatible. Most city residents are unaware of such outrageous efforts on the part of greedy developers like this one. However, I can assure you that, if they were aware, they would tell you, in no uncertain terms, that you SHOULD NOT steamroller an historic block in order to pad the pockets of a mega-developer who is trying to take advantage of my city’s need to provide housing.
