Subject:Re: 1144 Chorro St Project, Case # PR-0060-2018
To CHC members:
I won’t be able to participate in the virtual meeting on the 22nd, but would like to weigh on this proposed project at
1144 Chorro St.
First, I understand and support growth for SLO. I think Hotel Cerro and Hotel San Luis both compliment this town with
their high quality designs and structures, with Hotel Cerro maintaining and adding to the beauty and charm of Garden
Street downtown.
What I do not support are more architectural “designs” such as the, for lack of a better description, cheap looking
housing project at 581 Higuera St, and the large, contemporary building on Marsh St that was literally squeezed
between two SLO historic beauties. (One of them being The Jack House.) Both historic houses are now dwarfed by the
incompatible building jutting out to the street. Pretty design, completely wrong placement.
So, while I do support the re-vamping of the Copeland building at 1144 Chorro, I would like to see a design and purpose
that compliments our historic downtown vibe and the people who live in SLO. I do not understand a 75ft high,
unimaginative, government-style building design plopped down on top of our downtown historic district; a project that
seems to directly reflect the interests of greedy developers and not what would be best for the people of San Luis
Obispo to view and enjoy.
Thank you for your consideration of my opinion.
