Subject:French Hospital plan include helicopter take-off and landing over public housing.
I am bringing to your attention that the current design for the helipad operation at French Hospital places the take-off
and landing “surface” right over the HASLO apartments at Leff and Toro. Since the pad would be less than 280 feet away
from those homes, this is not consistent with Federal and state regulations, which require a 280’ “Protection Zone”
under the path. I received a copy from the architect because my home is nearby, and have alerted him to the problem,
but do not know their response. I doubt that the City can waive the rights of those residents, or indemnify them should
there be an accident. Please make sure that this continues to be monitored for compliance; undoing it later would be
costly, and the risk is considerable.
