I also am a basketball activist, artist, and community organizer around the game. Since the shutdown of everything (basketball included) anyone wanting to play has had to resort to public parks and in that same sentence it was a nice summer. However, it's now winter and it becomes pitch black by 5pm. There is an inexcusable lack of lighting at the basketball courts all over San Luis Obispo county and San Luis Obispo in particular. This makes it nearly impossible for anyone with a regular job to be able to play basketball and for those that try poses potential safety risks. The group that I play with of 30-50 people all hold these same feelings and share this anger. To add to that many basketball courts are in dire need of repairs most importantly game lines being repainted and nets as I've taken it upon myself to put nets up on courts all over the city. Lastly as this is a more difficult task but equally important is that there isn't a multicourt park in the entire county let alone in San Luis Obispo which is the main hub and gathering place as it's in the middle for people commuting from as far north as San Miguel and as far south as Nipomo. This is my home. I've transformed basketball courts and public spaces all over the world to beautiful spaces embraced by the community and it saddens me to come back and see this area that I grew up in so far behind. Thank you, Trevor 1
