Dear Advisory Board Members:
Thank you for your service to San Luis Obispo.
I'm writing to you as a regular user of the SLO Swim Center. My dad was Director of Recreation during the pool's
construction, and I worked there in the early days. Now I enjoy it as a customer.
During the height of Covid restrictions the Swim Center had a large lifeguard staff. Customers had many opportunities
during each day to swim throughout the year. I was never turned away due to a staff shortage. This year customers
eagerly returned to the Fall swim schedule after almost a month of pool closure. One week later, swimming
opportunities were severely cut back due to a staff shortage. Comparing pictures of staff currently posted with my
memory of pictures of staff posted during Covid, half the lifeguard staff is gone.
I don't know what is needed to attract and retain lifeguard staff, but I'm hoping you can help. Please hear this matter,
take input, and assist in any way you can.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Wendy Stockton
