Re: ACR 183 (Cunningham) Detective Luca Benedetti Memorial Overpass (Support)
Dear Assembly Member Friedman:
The City of San Luis Obispo writes to express our strong support for ACR 183. Our community is
still grieving the loss of Detective Benedetti as we recently honored him on the one-year
anniversary of his passing.
Detective Luca Benedetti selflessly gave his life on May 10th, 2021 while serving a search warrant
in San Luis Obispo. This tragedy has been exceedingly difficult for his family, the Police
Department, other City Departments and has deeply affected our entire community. Detective
Benedetti was an accomplished Police Officer with over 12 years of service to his community.
Detective Benedetti embodied the qualities of a great father, husband and Police Officer. He was
loving, dedicated, hard-working, had a zest for life and a passion for cooking, gardening, and
competitive shooting. He was a kind and compassionate police officer, talented investigator, and
SWAT operator. His contributions to the Department and the City will be felt for years to come. A
loss of a police officer profoundly affects communities.
Thank you to Assemblyman Cunningham for introducing this Resolution and to the legislature for
considering honoring Luca's legacy in such a lasting and honorable way.
For these reasons and many. more the City of San Luis Obispo strongly supports ACR 183
honoring the memory and contributions of Luca Benedetti.
Sincerely,
.
