SUBJECT
Submittal of Plans and Specifications for "Sewer Main Reconstruction
Project / Phase I: Broad Street Sewer Laterals; City Plan No. M -33R."
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Plans and Specifications, Authorize Staff to Advertise for Bids and
Authorize CAO to Award Contract.
BACKGROUND:
The existing sewer system in the area of North Broad Street and Meinecke Street
extends diagonally across lots and under houses. It is also very flat and in
poor condition. This has resulted in repeated blockages and backups into
private homes in the area. The project will eliminate a portion of the problem
by connecting a number of the existing sewer laterals into the sewer main in
Broad Street which has sufficient capacity. This will permit abandonment of a
portion of the old line and will minimize both City liability and maintenance
costs.
This project has been given an EIR clearance by the Planning Departmant.
Status: Categorical Exemption.
SIGNIFICANT IMPACT:
Base Bid: $27,325
Contingencies 3,400
Total: $30,725
This project is included in the Capital Replacement Plan of the 1987/1989
Financial Plan. There was $80,000 allocated for this project.
CONSEQUENCE OF NOT TAKING ACTION:
The substandard condition will remain which requires excessive maintenance and
exposes the City to liability. The project may be more expensive to construct
at a later date.
ACTION RECOMMENDED:
Approve plans and specifications, authorize staff to advertise for bids and
authorize CAO to award the contract.
