Romero, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Request of San Luis Obispo Land Conservancy for city endorsement of grant application. CAD RECOMMENDATION: MEETING DATE: January 19,-1987 ITEM NUMBER/!ff By motion, authorize City Administrative Officer to sign application with endorsement on behalf of the city. BACKGROUND: The San Luis Obispo County Land Conservancy is applying for a second round grant from the State Department of Water Resources under their Urban Stream Restoration Program, and would like to have endorsement of the City of San-Luis Obispo. There are six tasks outlined within the report, many of which - interrelate with ongoing city studies and plans. Of particular interest is the study of an upstream detention facility which should correlate closely with the city's study which will be presented for Council consideration in February. The grant is for $35,000, with the Conservancy proposing to contribute additional work at relatively inexpensive rates to accommodate a total budget of $65,850. The City will not be asked to contribute directly toward this project. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the city endorse the application and authorize the City Administrative Officer to sign on behalf of the city. attachment: letter from John Ashbaugh, dated 12/23/87 (Supplemental information for this application will be available in the Council office.) Our organization would be very pleased to have the endorsement of the City of San Luis Obispo for our grant application. We enclose a copy of our grant application, and the material announcing the grant program from the Department of Water Resour- ces. We would call your attention.to the fact that the brochure describing the program has a picture of Mission Plaza in the lower right corner of the first page. Another, larger picture of the plaza is shown on page 11. We will submit to the City several printed 'copies of our Restoration Plan as soon as it is back from the printer, which should be next week before the next Council meeting. In lieu of the completed plan, our grant proposal gives a good overview of where we are in the process. In fact, Exhibit B to the grant proposal summarizes what we have accomplished to date in the Restoration Plan, and what we hope to do in the future. Thank you for considering the endorsement of our grant proposal. We look forward to working with you, with Mayor Dunin and the rest of the Council, and with the staff on creek issues in the future.
