Subject: Cancella`Cion of second City Council meeting in July - july 19

Recommendation
That the City Council cancel the second meeting in July (.July 19)
Discussion
The City Councilmembers and I have previously discussed the desirability
of cancelling the second meeting in July, in order to give both City
Councilmembers and staff members a better opportunity to plan their stammer
vacations.
The intent would be to have an active spring, as the City Council 's agenda
is quite full , and to handle as much of the City's business during June
and at the first meeting in July (July 5) as possible. By concentrating
as many business items on the two June agendas and that of .July 5, we
should be able to handle the business items before us. In the "worst
case" situation it is always possible to call a Special Meeting should
that become necessary.
Again, there is a desire on the part of the City Council and City suAff
members to be able to plan a summer vacation without disrupting the normal
flow of City business. By concentrating Council anal staff vacat.ions:
during the latter part of July, this should allow us to address all the
items which we anticipate will be before us this summer.
