SUBJECT: Promotional Coordinating Committee's recommendations for Grants-in Aid
funding in 1988-1989.
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
After considering the Promotional Coordinating Committee's recommendation
and public testimony, approve or modify funding levels of applicant
agencies and direct staff to negotiate and the CAO to execute contracts
with the funded agencies .
BACKGROUND:
At the City Council meeting July 19, 1988, staff was directed to return with nine
applications seeking Grants-in-Aid funding through the Promotional Coordinating
Committee for consideration.
The Council approved eleven recommendations by the Promotional Coordinating Committee
and they are as follows:
1 . San Luis Obispo County Band $2,500.00
3. Friendship School 2,350.00
5. San Luis Vocal Arts Ensemble 3,000.00
6. EOC Wine Festival 4,000.00
i . San Luis Youth Symphony 2,000.00
14. La Fiesta 5,000.00
15. Music and Arts for Youth 2,700.00
16. San Luis County Arts Council 5,000.00
18. San Luis Obispo Children's Theatre 3,000.00
19. Pacific Repertory Opera 1 ,000.00
20. SLO Criterium -0-
Total Awarded $31 ,350.00
Staff will negotiate contracts with each of the funded agencies and the City
Administrative officer will execute the agreements.
Pending are the agencies which the City Council is being asked to consider for fiscal
year 1988-1989 awards, and they are as follows :

ALTERNATIVES: ,
1 . Council may approve the recommendations of the Promotional Coordinating
Committee and direct staff to negotiate and the City Administrative
Officer to execute agreements with each of the funded agencies.
2. Review the recommendations of the Promotional Coordinating Committee and
make adjustments regarding funding levels. The Council might alter the
recommendations without requesting further review by the PCC.
3. Return the recommendations for review by the PCC.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Council has approved a line-item amount for Grants-in-Aid for the PCC of
$56,000.00 during the budget hearings of the 1987-1989 Financial Plan.
The Council had approved on July 18, 1988 funding for eleven agencies in an
amount of $31 .350.00. There is a balance of $34 ,650.00. The PCC recommended
funding in an amount of $46,850.00 and anticipates additional requests by
cultural and educational groups.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
After considering the Promotional Coordinating Committee's recommendation and
public testimony, approve or modify funding levels of applicant agencies and
direct staff to negotiate and the CAO to execute contracts with the funded
agencies.
Attachment: Please bring previously distributed attachments from the July 19,
1988 Council meeting related to PCC agenda items (6-A-1 to 6-A-16) . The Grant
applications are available in the reading file.
