COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT -
FROM: James M. Gardiner.-rr Prepared by: Daniel R. B anke
C ief of Police Administrative Sergeant
SUBJECT:
Establishment of a $5.00 fee, payable every two years, for the issuance and
renewal of security/fire alarm permits.
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt resolution establishing alarm permit issuance and renewal fees.
BACKGROUND:
SUMMARY DISCUSSION:
The current procedures for the issuance of security and fire alarm permits, and the
procedures for handling false alarms are under review by the Police and Fire
Departments. As a result, certain cost recovery recommendations will be forwarded to
Council later this year. During the course of this study, it was discovered that no
current resolution exists authorizing the imposition of the $5.00 fee for the
issuance and renewal of alarm permits. Such a resolution is necessary to comply with
SLOMC Section 15.12.050(8)(1).
SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS:
The procedures for the collection of alarm permit fees are already in place. There
would be no significant financial or staff implications for the City.
CONSEQUENCE OF NOT TAKING THE RECOMMENDED ACTION:
If the resolution is not adoted, the City would not be in compliance with
SLOMC Section 15.12.050(B)(I. The alternative would be to eliminate the fee for
alarm permit issuance and renewal .
