ABANDONED VEHICLE ABATEMENT

BACKGROUND:
The Abandoned Vehicle Towing program is fully operational and we are now removing
vehicles within seven to ten days from the date of the report. Abandoned vehicles
in particularly sensitive areas have been towed in as little as four days.
The billing process for cost recovery has been established and notices will start
going out during the month of September. This phase of the operation was delayed
to allow for an increase in the charge to $75 per vehicle and to modify the re-
quired forms. This increase brings the charge in line with the recommendations of
the City consultants.
Additionally, I understand that abandoned vehicles on private property are also
a concern. We stand ready to assist in removing these vehicles, however, calls.
on these vehicles are relatively infrequent.
At this time we do not have a backlog of reported abandoned vehicles and the
citizens appear to be satisfied with our level of service.
