SUBJECT:
Submittal of Plans and Specifications for the "Water Main
Reconstruction Project: Meadow Street - Lawrence Drive to Mitchell
Street, City Plan No. R-36P11 .
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Plans and Specifications, Authorize Staff to Advertise for
Bids, and Authorize CAO to award the Contract if the low bid comes in
below the Engineer's Estimate.
DISCUSSION:
The waterline which serves the residences along Meadow Street is a
shallow 4" cast iron line built in the early 19401s. Since the property
owners adjacent to Meadow Street are beginning to install curb and gutter
along their frontages, the street will need to be built to its designed
grade. When this happens, the existing waterline will be too near the
surface, and in some cases will be above the street surface. This
project involves abandoning the existing 4" line and installing an 8" PVC
waterline at the correct grade. The size of the waterline was increased
to improve circulation in this area.
CONCURRENCES:
This project has been given an EIR clearance by the Planning Department.
Status: Categorical Exemption.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The estimated project costs are as follows:
Base Bid: $31, 810.00
Contingencies: 2 , 190.00
Total: $34,000.00
This project was not identified in the 1989-91 Financial Plan but is
required, due to the unforeseen circumstances identified above. Other
water main projects identified in the 1989-91 Financial Plan have been
deferred and money is available in Capital Appropriations.
