RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution urging the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors to initiate discussion with Monterey County water officials regarding Nacimiento as a supplemental water source. BACKGROUND: At the City Council meeting of December 11, 1990, a representative from the Nacimiento Regional Water Management Advisory Committee made a presentation regarding Water Management issues. After receiving the presentation, Council directed staff to prepare a resolution urging the Board of Supervisors to work with Monterey County water officials regarding the use of the Nacimiento water project as a supplemental water source. This is consistent with a policy of actively seeking multi- source, long -term water supplies adopted by Council on November 27, 1990. Attachment: Resolution RESOLUTION NO. (1990 SERIES) A RESOLUTION OF THE CTTY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO URGING THE SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO INTITIATE DISCUSSION WTTH MONTEREY COUNTY AND NACI1vIIENTO WATER OFFICIALS REGARDING NACIMIENTO RESERVOIR AS A SUPPLEMENTAL WATER SOURCE. WHEREAS, the City Council on November 27, 1990 adopted a policy for multi- source long -term water supplies; and WHEREAS, the San Luis Obispo County Water and Wastewater Master Plan identifies Nacimiento Reservoir as a source of supply for future use; and WHEREAS, Monterey County Flood Control has on -going activities which could affect future water supplies from Nacimiento Reservior; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows: SECTION 1. That the City Council requests the Board of Supervisors of San Luis Obispo County, also ]mown as the San Luis Obispo Flood Control District, immediately initiate discussions with Monterey County as to the future of Nacimiento Reservoir and provide a dialogue identifying the importance of the Nacimiento Reservoir to San Luis Obispo County as a future supplemental source of water. On the motion of seconded by and on the following roll call vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted day of 1990.
