COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT ITEM NUMBER:
1 /1
FROM: Ken Hampian, Assistant City Administrative Officere—
SUBJECT: Bicycle Committee Appointments
CAO RECOMMENDATION: Approve the CAO staff appointments to the
Bicycle Advisory Committee
DISCUSSION:
On August 20, 1991 the Council considered several appointments to
the Bicycle Advisory Committee. The recommendations of the Council
Liaison Subcommittee (Dunin/Roalman) relative to the citizen
appointments were approved by the City Council. With regard to the
staff appointments, the Council referred the matter back to the CAO
in order to consider the possibility of a female appointee, and an
appointee who could represent the perspective of individuals not
currently using the City's bicycle path system. The latter goal
is intended to help generate ideas to encourage current "non-
riders" to use bicycles as an alternative means of transportation.
With these issues in mind, the CAO is recommending that Linda
Fitzgerald, Recreation Supervisor, be appointed to the Committee.
Ms. Fitzgerald is currently not a bicyclist, but is interested in
improving the City system to minimize conflicts between automobiles
and bicycle riders. From the perspective of a recreational
professional, as well as a mother of children who ride bicycles,
Ms. Fitzgerald is particularly concerned about child safety. In
terms of Ms. Fitgerald' s professional background, her years of
experience in recreation programs will also bring an important
recreation-oriented perspective to the Committee.
With this appointment, the Bicycle Committee will consist of the
following individuals:
Citizen Representatives
• Wes Conner
• Jamie Lopes
• Richard Marshall
• Gary Simms
• Wayne Williams
Staff Representatives
• Linda Fitzgerald
• Terry Sanville
