NNIIIIPa 111 city Of San Lai s OBI spo
COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT ITEM NUMBER:
FROM: Ken Hampian, Assistant City Administrative Officer
Prepared By: Deb Hossli, Administrative Analyst _,,,:; '
SUBJECT: Exception to Human Relations Commission Bylaws
CAO RECOMMENDATION: Approve an exception to the Human Relations
Commission's bylaws by allowing the chair and vice-chair to
continue to serve in their respective roles for one additional
year.
DISCUSSION:
Consistent with the Human Relations Commission's (HRC) bylaws,
chair and vice-chair selections were made at their March 1992
regular meeting for the coming year. The HRC unanimously selected
Ms. Marion Wolff and Mr. Don Green to serve as chair and vice-
chair, respectively, for the next year. After the selection was
made, however, it was discovered that Advisory Body rules require
the chair and vice-chair positions to rotate annually. Ms. Wolff
and Mr. Green have already served as chair and vice-chair for the
past two years.
The HRC took this issue up at their April meeting and concluded
that it would be their preference to have Ms. Wolff and Mr. Green
remain as chair and vice-chair for the coming year. Conflicting
schedules, prior commitments and the fact that many of the
Commissioners are relatively new to the HRC, preclude other members
from taking on the responsibility of chair and vice-chair. As
such, the Commission would like the Council 's concurrence to allow
Ms. Wolff and Mr. Green to remain as chair and vice-chair for one
last year.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this recommendation.
