HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/20/1992, C-2 - CONSIDERATION OF LOGO CHANGE FOR SLO TRANSIT. 411ryIHIIIIIIIIIAIIIU fSan MEETING DATE: Moron COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT STEM NUMBER:/) FROM: Ken Hampian, Assistant City Administrative Officer Prepared by: Harry Watson, Transit Manager SUBJECT: Consideration of logo change for SLO Transit. CAO RECOMMENDATION: Endorse the new SLO Transit logo for future transit vehicle purchases and rehabilitations. DISCUSSION: Several years ago, through an in-house process, a new logo for SLO Transit buses was designed. The City's former Drafting Technician, Rick Hocker, of the Community Development Department, at no outside expense to the City, designed the recommended logo. However, for an undetermined reason, the new logo was never pursued by the then transit staff. As Mr. Hocker was cleaning out his files in preparation for his departure from the City, he brought the new logo option to the attention of the current Transit Manager. To test public acceptance of the logo, removable vinyl overlays were applied to the recently purchased back-up buses for SLO Transit's fleet. The public has. readily accepted the new logo as being easily identifiable, easy to read at a distance, and appealing in its simplicity. Staff believes it offers a fresh and more energetic appearance than the current logo. CONCURRENCES: The proposed logo was presented to the Mass Transportation Committee (MTC) as part of the new bus specification package for their approval. The MTC unanimously approved the new logo concept and recommended the pilot program on the back-up buses. FISCAL IMPACT: There will be no fiscal impact on the City by changing the logo, as it will only be applied to new buses as they are purchased, and on rehabilitated buses as they are repainted.
