HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/19/1993, COMM 1 - RESTRIPING OF HIGUERA STREET BETWEEN HIGH ST. AND MARSH/HIGUERA INTERSECTIONJanuary 8, 1993 COMMUNICATION ITEM #1 TO: Council Colleagues FROM:. Council Member Dave Romero SUBJECT: RESTRIPING OF HIGUERA STREET BETWEEN HIGH ST. AND MARSH /HIGUERA INTERSECTION Several months ago the City Council directed the Public Works Department to modify the pavement striping on Higuera Street between High and Marsh / Higuera intersection so as to change the lane configuration to one which would allow bike lanes in each direction, one traffic lane in each direction and a two -way left turn. This is scheduled to be done in March 1993. Unlike outer Foothill Boulevard this two -block portion of Higuera is heavily congestedwith two traffic lanes leading to this area from both the north and the south. In my judgment, restriping this portion of Higuera Street in this fashion will result in substantial congestion at each end and will be a disservice to the transportation needs of our community. I am hereby requesting that the Council reconsider this matter at some time in the near future so as to more fully discuss the implications. Thank you. DR:ss Cxuc.
