SUBJECT: Chain Link Fencing and Ballfield Backstop Installations,
Specification No. 93-46.
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
By motion,
1) Approve plans and specifications for "Chain Link Fencing and Ballfield
Backstop Installations, Specification No. 93-4611,
2) Authorize staff to advertise for bids, . and
3) Authorize the CAO to award the contract if the lowest responsible bid
is within the budgeted amount.
DISCUSSION:
The chain link fencing and ballfield backstops in several parks need
replacement and repair. The backstops at Throop and Santa Rosa Parks
have rusted from failure of the coating, which has in turn weakened the
structures. The Sinsheimer Stadium backstop is not tall enough to
protect bystanders from foul balls, and some sections of fencing there
are deteriorated.
CONCURRENCES:
Community Development Department has given this project a categorical
exemption.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This project is included in the Park Renovations CIP project (see pages
E-9 and E-20 of the 1991/93 Financial Plan and pages E-8 and E-21 of the
1993/95 Financial Plan) . Of the $294, 000 appropriated so far for the
Park Renovations, $65, 000 is allocated to the fencing and ballfield
renovations.
The engineer's estimate is $72 , 000 including nine percent contingencies.
The bid documents allow deletion of non-safety contract items if the low
bid is deemed too high.
When the contract is awarded, staff will prepare a budget amendment
request to transfer money from the Park Renovations project account to a
new separate project account to cover construction costs and
contingencies for the fencing and ballfield renovations.
Plans and specifications are available in the Council office for review.
