COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT MIS
FROM: Mike McCluskey, Public Works Directorr6-n
Prepared by: Keith Opalewski, Parking Manager
SUBJECT: Establishment of Parking Fines
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
Give final passage to Ordinance 1285 (1995 Series) amending section 10.64.030 (Parking Fines)
of the Municipal Code authorizing the setting of fines for parking violations to be established
by resolution.
DISCUSSION:
At its October 17, 1995 session, the City Council held a public hearing to consider amending
the Municipal Code Section 10.64.030 (Parking Fines) so all parking violation fines could be
set by resolution. Council also considered increasing the fine for parking violations of
Municipal Code Section 10.36.200(Limitations on parking in a residential permit parking area)
to $20 for all residential parking permit districts. Council heard public comment and
unanimously approved the ordinance change to set parking fines by resolution as well as the fine
increase for parking violations in residential permit parking districts. The parking fine increase
was approved by Resolution 8462 (1995 Series) effective upon final passage of Ordinance 1285.
FISCAL IMPACT:
i
The increased parking fine for residential parking permit areas will affect the amount of parking
citation revenue generated from this type of enforcement. Since there is a strong possibility the
higher fine will result in fewer parking citations, the amount of net increase will vary. The
printing costs associated with the fine increase will be funded from available resources in the
Parking Fund.
