SUBJECT: Appointment Recommendation to the Parks&Recreation Commission
RECOMMENDATION
Reappoint James Neville to a four year term to end 3/31/2001, appoint Teresa Larson to a three year
term to end 3/31/2000, and thank Jack Davidson for his service to the Commission.
DISCUSSION
Two tenors will expire on 3/31/97: Jack Davidson and James Neville. After advertising and
interviewing applicants, the Council Subcommittee is pleased to recommend the candidates as listed
above. Copies of their applications are attached.

Therapeutic Recreation Consultant- Regency/Health Care 10/89 -
present
Provide Consulting Services to the agency by identifying client
needs through a comprehensive functional assessment. Identify
client problem areas; behavioral, physical and to identify
developmental strengths. Develop specific objectives to meet
client needs as identified by comprehensive assessment. Also
provide hands-on training with staff, attending actual groups and
providing in-service training.
Rehabilitation Therapist - Atascadero State Hospital 11/86 -
present
Responsibilities include applying therapeutic recreation knowledge,
activities, and techniques to male adults with mental illness.
Assessing individual needs, determining appropriate objectives,
developing activities to meet objectives, and conducting various
forms of group and individual therapy. Participating in treatment
team conferences regarding rehabilitative needs of the of the
patient. Working with student interns as needed.
Rehabilitation Therapy Service Chair - Atascadero State Hospital
1/89 - 1/91
Call, preside at, and be responsible for agenda of all general
service meetings. Work cooperatively with the Chief of the Service
to insure compliance with service rules and regulations and
standard of practice for all service members. Serve as ex-officio
member of all service committees. Review all request for special
peer reviews with the Chief of the Service to determine need for
further formal action, co-chair the Service Advisory Council.
Recommend to the Chief of the Service appointments to all service
committees, medical staff and hospital wide committees. Represent
the Rehabilitation Therapy Service in the Medical Staff Executive
Committee. Represent the Service on the Clinical Services Team,
changes iri hospital policies, procedures to promote the optimal

utilization of rehabilitation therapy staff resources and to
improve patient care. Promote the continuing integration , of
rehabilitation therapy into the treatment process. Provide support
for .the professional development and growth of all service members.
Recreation Therapist/Director. - Casa de Vida 11/79 11/86
Responsibilities included developing a master plan for the agency's
recreation program and services, . such as resident camp in Santa
Barbara, sports activities, field trips, special events, and social
and seasonal events. Wrote and implemented successful grant
proposals, ..planned and promoted successful fund raisers, such .as
the Oktoberfest. Planned programs in conjunction with other
disciplines to help achieve specific treatment goals. Controlled
purchasing and expenditure of recreation .funds. Maintained good
public relations with local organizations (Council for Exceptional
Children, Outreach, - Cal Poly Recreation Administration, Church
groups, and Fraternal organizations) . Hired and. supervised
recreation staff. Supervised and follow-up of planned activities
to insure that staff members, field work students, and volunteers
worked cohesively.
