Please explain why you would like to serve (use reverse side for additional information):
I would like to serve on the Promotional Coordinating Committee for the City of San Luis
Obispo for three reasons: I have an absolute love for the city of San Luis Obispo, my
professional expertise is in the promotional industry, and I have many ideas which I feel
could contribute to the success of the committee, the city, and it's goals.
I've heard many good promotional ideas tossed around lately ranging from turning San
Luis Obispo into an Olympic Training Village, to paving the way for a professional baseba
team, to something as simple as offering discounts to residents of certain geographical
areas to bring more tourist dollars to the city, similar to what the city of Santa Barbara has
done. All of these are great concepts that would work well within our community's goals.
I would be honored to serve on the Promotional Committee for the City of San Luis
Previous service on SLO advisory Obispo.

As a business owner in this community I have a vested interest in the promotic
of this city as a tourist destination Tourism represents about 20% of the
annual income for the city businesses. I would like to see this persentage and
the overall dollar volume increase, particularly in view of the cut backs a..
Cal Poly and other state and government funded agencies. Tourism and conventic
business is a good clean source of income for our city while having a relative
low demand on city services. (continued on reverse)

Please explain why you would like to serve:
In one way or another, since I moved to San Luis Obispo in 1989 from Indiana, I
have contributed to the promotion of the city and the area through my professional
and volunteer activities. Beginning in 1989, through my work as director of
communications for the SLO Chamber of Commerce, I worked with the
Promotional Coordinating Committee on the city's contract with the Chamber for
promotional activities, making monthly reports to the committee on our progress.
I have served as a member of the Chamber's Tourism Council, and certainly
through my work at KSBY-TV and since 1992 at Cuesta College, I have worked with
many other community volunteers to promote various cultural, educational and
recreational assets of the region.
My husband, David Congalton, and I are happy and proud to live in San Luis
Obispo. Service on the Promotional Coordinating Committee would be a natural
extension of my interest in promoting tourism and supporting the area's cultural
activities. I have a deep personal interest in promoting the arts and cultural events
in San Luis Obispo; I would like to use my skills and abilities in publicity,
advertising, marketing and public relations to serve community goals and to share a
public commitment to support area arts and events.
