SUBJECT: Creek Protection Work t7 PERS DIR
Since it is now unlikely that permanent creek protection work can be done prior to winter rains
and since the threat of a very heavy winter is imminent, it would be prudent on the part of the City
to conduct some relatively minor protective work at selected sites along the creek prior to winter
rains. This would keep the creek banks from further eroding during storms, possibly damaging
buildings. I am particularly concerned with the erosion at the former RRM building on Higuera
Street.
I request City Council to direct staff to investigate obtaining emergency permits and conducting
minor protection work along these eight creek repair sites scheduled for permanent repairs.

Subject: City Pine Trees
It now appears that virtually all pine trees in the City will be attacked by the Pine Pitch Canker
and will be destroyed in the next few years.
This has huge implications for our golf courses and parks from the standpoint of appearance,
manpower, and cost. I believe it would be worthwhile for staff to make a Council presentation at
a public meeting outlining the problem and allowing discussion on what the City response would
be.
