CAO RECOMMENDATION

replacement of seating at Sinsheimer Stadium

DISCUSSION
The 1997-99 Financial Plan includes a project to replace 455 badly deteriorated bleacher seats at
Sinsheimer Stadium. Through the efforts of Councilmember Kathy Smith and Utilities Engineer
Dan Gilmore, both dedicated San Luis Obispo Blues fans, Public Works recently learned that
surplus stadium chairs would be available via renovation of Anaheim Stadium, home of the
California Angels. A representative from American Seating, the seating contractor on the
Anaheim Stadium job, recently visited Sinsheimer Stadium and submitted a unit price quotation
to famish and install 816 surplus chairs with new seat and back hardware, new anchor
attachment hardware, and refinished cast iron chair parts. These chairs are in good condition and
offer more style and comfort than the replacements originally planned.
The chairs must be installed before November 15, 1997 to avoid storage charges.
CONCURRENCES
The Parks and Recreation Commission and the Joint Use Advisory Committee have examined
samples of the surplus seating, approved the proposed installation, and endorsed this
procurement.
