SUBJECT: Railroad Bicycle Path Budget Amendment Request
CAO RECOMMENDATION
Transfer $10,000 from the Minor Bicycle Projects account to the Railroad Bicycle Path Phase I
construction account.
DISCUSSION
A construction contract for the Railroad Bicycle Path was awarded to John Maddona
Construction for $395,641 in October 1997. Due to permit time constraints and the
straightforwardness of the project,the contract was awarded with only $9,400 in contingencies.
Per Council Policy, Public Works is notifying Council that we have spent 75% of the
contingencies for this project. This was due to unexpected drainage problems near the Bushnell
Street area. Since construction is only 50% complete, staff is requesting an additional $10,000 to
cover any other contract change orders. This money will be transferred from the Bicycle Projects
account as stated in the CAO Contract Award Report dated September 22, 1997. If the money is
not needed, it will be returned to the Bicycle Projects account.
Adding the $10,000 to the $9,600 results in a 5% contingency fund for this project which is still
below the standard contingency of 10%.
The $5,000 remaining in the Minor Bicycle Projects will be sufficient to cover projects for the
1997/98 fiscal year.
