DISCUSSION At the March 17, 1998 City Council meeting, Bill Tyson and Joan Lawrence were reappointed to the HRC, filling two of the five vacancies occurring on the commission this year. The Council Subcommittee interviewed five applicants on March 31, 1998. It is recommended that Susan Brown and Lucinda Culpepper be appoint to the HRC for three-year terms expiring on March 31, 2001, and Melia Parchman to a two-year term ending on March 31, 2000. Although the appointments are being made after April 1,these terms will be considered full terms. The nominees applications are attached. In 1997 I completed all requirements and testing for my MFCC license and that has given me time to pursue other activities. I am interested in becoming involved in a volunteer capacity in some community activities and I am particularly interested in the work of this commission as outlined in the Advisory Body handbook. I have had considerable experience working in various county agencies while obtaining the necessary counseling hours required for my MFCC license. I have worked 5 years as a counselor at San Luis Obispo County Drug& Alcohol Services, 1.5 years at Department of Social Services in San Luis Obispo (as a volunteer) providing counseling and parenting training to low-income families, and co-facilitated a support group at Rape Crisis Center. Currently I am a volunteer counselor at Family Services Center in San Luis Obispo and have volunteered to provide training/support to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County. I am also currently on the board of Habitat for Humanity (local affiliate) and co-chair of the family partnership committee.
