SUBJECT: ANNUAL UTILITY TRENCH REPAIR SPECIFICATION NO. 92-03
CAO RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve Specifications for"Annual Utility Trench Repair" Specification No. 92-03.
2. Authorize staff to advertise for bids.
3. Authorize the CAO to award the contract to the lowest responsible bidder.
DISCUSSION
During the course of the year, Utility Department crews make repairs of the utility lines in City
streets. At the time of repair, temporary patches to the street are made. The trench repair project
provides for permanent repair to be made to the street surface.
Approval of this request would authorize the Annual Utilities Trench Repair Project. This
contract will be effective from 5-1-1998 through 6-30-1999. A contractor will be hired to repair
the trenches through out the year. This on going contract will allow a more timely repair of the
streets.
CONCURRENCES
Community Development Department has given this project a categorical exemption.
FISCAL IMTACT
The engineer's estimate for this project is for $70,000. A total of $70,000 was identified for
1998-99 trench repairs, (1998-99) Financial Plan, Appendix B, page 53-55). The contract will
remain in effect until the year is up or the$70,000 is spent.
