SUBJECT: CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE
CAO RECOMMENDATION
By motion, direct staff to cancel the regular City Council meetings of August 4, 1998 and
November 3, 1998,and schedule a meeting on November 10, 1998.
DISCUSSION
Since 1994 when it was suggested by Mayor Settle, it has been the practice not to schedule City
Council meetings during the first two weeks of August. This custom allows Council and staff
members to plan vacations.
It is not anticipated that the cancellation of the August 4'' meeting will produce any significant
delays of the conduct of Council business. If,however, all business cannot be accommodated at the
regular meeting of August 18d, or if an urgent item needs to be presented to the Council for
direction,it may be necessary to schedule an adjourned meeting later that month.
As you are aware,November Pis Election Day. Because the focus for most citizens that evening
likely will be on elections returns, it is recommended that the regularly scheduled City Council
meeting be canceled and rescheduled for Tuesday,November 10'x.
The one week postponement of the first meeting in November should not produce significant
delays of Council business, and will reschedule the meeting to a date when Council and staff can
focus more clearly on the agendized items, rather than the election. This will promote a more
efficient address of issues.
