DISCUSSION The election of Jan Howell Marx and John Ewan to the City Council created two vacancies on the Planning Commission. After advertising and interviewing 16 candidates, the Council Subcommittee is pleased to recommend Alice Loh and Stephen Peterson to fill these unexpired terms. Because one term will expire 3/31/99, the Subcommittee recommends extending the term two years to end 3/31/01. This allows continuity, following the Council policy of two terms expiring each year. Recommended candidate applications are attached. All others are available in the City Clerk's Office. I have particular expertise in areas of: urban creek restoration, alternative transportation and urban design. I am familiar with General Plan law, CEQA and the development review process. Leadership on Local Planning Issues: I am President and co-founder of Save the SLO Life --the grass roots organization working to stop the County from developing Eagle Hardware within the city s urban reserve line. Planning Department Experience: I have worked with two planning agencies. The City of Boulder, Colorado, Alternative Transportation Planning Division: I handled implementation of a new propane - {powered small bus circulator program.
