FROM: James M. Gardiner, Chief of Police
Prepared By: Kathe Kleiman,Administrative Secretary
SUBJECT: GRANT AUTHORIZATION TO THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO SIGN THE
SLOCOPS GRANT AGREEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY.
CAO RECOMMENDATION
Adopt resolution authorizing the Chief of Police to sign the San Luis Obispo County Plays It Safe
(SLOCOPS) grant agreement on behalf of the City for release of grant funds from SLOCOPS.
DISCUSSION
In November 1998, Council adopted a resolution authorizing the San Luis Obispo Police
Department to participate in a County-wide holiday DUI reduction program. Funding for the
additional holiday enforcement is provided by the State of California Office of Traffic Safety
through the SLOCOPS grant.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Office of Special Projects, has advised us that the
SLOPCOPS grant proposal for 1998 was approved. However, the CHP Contract Management Unit
is now requesting a resolution or document indicating that the Chief of Police is authorized on
behalf of the organization to sign the grant agreement. After this resolution is adopted, the City of
San Luis Obispo will receive reimbursement from the SLOCOPS Project grant money for the cost
associated with the DUI reduction program.
FISCAL EMPACT
The City of San Luis Obispo will receive reimbursement from SLOCOPS Project grant money in the
amount of$8,517.
