No.92-52"
2. Authorize staff to advertise for bids and authorize the CAO to award the contract if the lowest

DISCUSSION:
An extension of the Industrial Way water main to Sacramento Drive is needed to complete a loop
for Industrial Way. Currently, the main dead ends midway between Sacramento and Broad Streets
causing water quality issues as well as fire protection issues. This project will connect the water
main to Sacramento Drive and install two fire hydrants.
Sierra Way currently has an undersized and failing water main. This project will replace the
undersized line which will enhance fire flows, water quality and eliminate a bottleneck that
currently exists. A sewer manhole will also be installed on Sierra Way.
Project plans and specifications are available for review in the Council office.
FISCAL EMPACT:
Engineer's Estimate $143,000
Contingencies $15,000
Total $1589000
Sierra Way is identified in the 1997-99 Financial Plan, Approved 1997-98 Budget, Appendix B,
page 55. The sewer manhole is being added to this project to coordinate with the Pavement
Management Plan. The cost estimate for the sewer portion of this project is$5,000. Industrial Way
water line was identified in the 1997-99 Financial Plan,Appendix B,page 56 as a"future project".
In order to coordinate as much as possible with the Pavement Management Plan, this water line
installation is being pursued at this time. Currently, there is $1,614,143 available in Water
Distribution System Improvements and$948,186 available in the Wastewater Collections Systems
Improvements to support these projects.
