DISCUSSION
Throughout the course of the year, the Utility Department crews make repairs of the utility lines
in City streets. At the time of these repairs, temporary asphalt patches are placed at the surface of
the street above where the utility repair was made. Periodically, these temporary asphalt patches
are replaced with a stronger & more permanent asphalt patch. Funded through a Water
Distribution Capital Improvement Plan entitled: "Distribution System Improvements" (as shown
in the 1999-01 Financial Plan, Appendix B, page 80), this trench repair project provides this
permanent repair to be made to the street surface.
In August 1999, Council approved the 1999-00 "Annual Utility Trench Repair". That project,
which was the first phase of the 1999-00 project, has been completed with a total cost of
$24,839. With a total annual budget of$165,000, a remaining balance of$140,161 still remains.
Due to the number of temporary patches that remain to be permanently repaired, staff is seeking
approval for the second phase of this annual project, in the.amount not to exceed$90,338.
CONCURRENCES
Community Development Department has given this project a categorical exemption.
