MAIN STREET PROGRAM — NEW AND IMPROVED INITIATIVES. (HOLLEY— 90 MINUTES) A. Overview B. Downtown Association Current Main Street Projects C. Long Range Vision/Strategic Planning D. Casting a Wider Net for Downtown Involvement Presentation provided by Downtown Association Administrator Deborah Holley, Downtown Association Board Members, Doug Loescher with the National Trust Main Street Center and Keith Kielstrom. Council, Downtown Association Board Members and citizens provided feedback. 2 • Council Agenda Tues. �, August 29, 2000 Council agreed to consider at the next Council goal-setting workshop a recommendation by Council Member Marx relevant to the appointment of a task force that would Include collaborative planning for the "Greater Downtown"(the blocks surrounding the Downtown Association District). COMMUNICATIONS (not to exceed'1.5.minutes) At this time, any Council Member or the City'Administrative Officer.inay ask a question for clarification, make an announcement, or report briefly on his or her activities. In addition, subject to Council Policies and Procedures,they may provide a reference to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to the Council at a subsequent meeting concerning any matter, or take action to direct staff to place a matter of business on a future agenda(Gov. Code Sec. 549542). HIGUERA STREET BRIDGE. Council Member Romero proposed placing a discussion of the Higuera Street Bridge on the agenda for the next regular Council meeting. Council concurred and directed staff to place this item on the September 5, 2000 agenda. NON-TAXABLE SALES OF "BIG BOX" STORES Mayor Settle and Council Members Marx and Romero proposed that Council place an item on the September 19, 2000 agenda pertaining to non-taxable sales in `big box"stores. City Administrative Officer Dunn advised that the next several upcoming Council agendas are heavy and pointed out that there are no imminent developments that would be subject to this condition. Council agreed to defer this request to a later date. CAL POLY FARE FREE BUS PROGRAM Council Member Marx spoke regarding Cal Poly's recent action to end participation in the Fare Free Bus Program and urged Council to direct staff to investigate a proposal received from Cal Poly Professor Richard W. Lee. Public Work Director McCluskey informed Council that meetings are already scheduled between City and Cal Poly staff to work on alternatives. Council directed staff to continue pursuing alternative solutions and report back to Council. A.
