SUBJECT: SEWER IMPROVEMENT PROJECT:
CHORRO—ISLAY TO LEFF
SPECIFICATION NO. 90168.
CAO RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve plans and specifications for "Sewer Improvement Project: Chorro — Islay to Leff,
Specification No. 90178."
2. Authorize staff to advertise for bids and authorize the CAO to award the contract if the lowest
responsible bid is within the Engineer's Estimate.
DISCUSSION
This project will replace the sewer main on Chorro between Islay and Leff Street and two manholes. The
existing sewer line is a maintenance problem and grade defects inhibit flows.
This work must be completed before the scheduled reconstruction and resurfacing of Chorro Street in
Summer 2001. Additionally this project should be done during the dry season because of excess
infiltration and inflow experienced in this area. Project expected to be advertised for bid in late spring.
CONCURRENCES
Community Development Department has given this project a categorical exemption.
FISCAL IMPACT
Construction Cost Estimate $47,605.00
Contingencies @ 10 Percent $4,760.50
Total Engineer's Estimate $ 52,365.50
The collection system improvements account(520.58900.99087.58909087.90553)currently has a
balance of$25,500 to support sewer main improvements. The additional funding for the Chorro—Islay
to Leff sewer main project(about$26,900) will come from two sources: $14,500 from a completed
sewer fund CIP project and$12,400 from sewer fund general carryover, which has a balance of$130,400
to support this request. A budget amendment request will be processed at the time of contract award,
moving funding from these two sources to the specific project account.
